First Principles – What You Cannot Measure You Cannot Manage

Every time I meet with a client or a friend who wants to talk about their digital marketing campaigns, I’m shocked when I find that they do all these activities– hire people and consultants, create videos, spend on ads — yet they don’t have a clue as to how they will measure if this project/activity.

Even if it’s a new undertaking, you have to think about the metric / KPI that you want to measure it against. Once you have that, just state a number. That’s it. That’s your measure of success.

Without this, you’ll never know if that project/activity/campaign is a success or not if you don’t do this up front.
